Santa Clara Cathedral
An imposing structure dating back to 1584, built by Doña Magdalena Velasco, daughter of the city’s founder, Don Ortún Velasco de Velásquez. It was originally the first Convent of Santa Clara; however, after the 1875 earthquake that destroyed the Main Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, built in 1557, the Diocese decided that the Santa Clara convent chapel should become the Cathedral of Pamplona. This building was honored with the National Restoration Award at the 12th Architecture Biennial.
