Almeyda Square
This important site lives on in the memory of those who fought for Colombia's independence, honoring the Almeyda brothers, who, alongside Policarpa Salabarrieta, gave their lives for the cause of freedom.
In 1910, to commemorate the first centennial of independence, the historic Plazuela de San Francisco was renamed to its current name. An imposing obelisk was erected in its center in memory of the founders of the insurgent movement against the peacemaker Pablo Morillo, who also played a role in Colombia's independence.
