Lord of the Humilladero

It began as a simple, small, thatched-roof structure, which was gradually expanded by its congregation. Between 1605 and 1613, masonry work transformed it into a spacious church worthy of housing one of the most valuable and revered treasures of the people of Pamplona: the carving of the Señor del Humilladero, a European Renaissance work from the first half of the 16th century.
Many legends surround the origin of the iconic Humilladero sculpture; however, its name was given by the first missionaries who arrived in the Espíritu Santo Valley. The devotion that grows among residents and visitors alike toward the patron saint of Pamplona is most evident every September 14, on his feast day.
