FESTIVITIES OF THE NIÑO HUERFANITO (January 19–28):

Every year, the Monastery of the Poor Clare Sisters prepares the Sanctuary of the Niño Huerfanito in Pamplona with a religious program featuring daily charismatic Masses that allow locals and tourists alike to experience faith through a beautiful patron saint who accompanies and watches over the people of Pamplona. This year, beginning Friday, January 19, parishioners can attend Masses specially scheduled for the Niño Huerfanito at 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Experience these beautiful rituals in person or virtually, and let them fill your heart with love and faith.

HOLY WEEK IN PAMPLONA (March 2024)

This is another important date—perhaps the most representative of Pamplona, a city known for its tradition and religious heritage. During this week, nearly 12,000 tourists arrive to experience the solemnity of Jesus’s passion, death, and resurrection through the lens of Pamplona’s culture and art. Throughout the week, the streets are filled with the faithful accompanying religious statues on their journey through the city. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS (July 4)

Pamplona, also known as the “city that founded cities” and the “patriotic city of Colombia,” celebrates its independence on July 4, commemorating the date in 1810 when local resident Águeda Gallardo de Villamizar seized the symbol of office from the Spaniard Ortún Velazco de Velazques. With this act, Pamplona was freed from Spanish rule and administration. Pamplona was a pioneer in the country’s Cry of Independence, followed by cities such as Bogotá and Cartagena. Every year, a special celebration is held where artists, artisans, business owners, and entrepreneurs prepare to showcase their best work in artistic and cultural venues, as well as through theater, cinema, and street culture events. Likewise, the parks and main streets come alive with music and folklore to the rhythm of local artists and national and international guests. PATRON SAINT FESTIVITIES OF THE SEÑOR DEL HUMILLADERO (September 14)

In the parish of the Señor del Humilladero stands the image of the Crucified Lord, which attracts large numbers of visitors every September 14, as the feast of the patron saint of the city of Pamplona is celebrated on that day. This religious festival is accompanied by the traditional novena to the Señor del Humilladero, which brings together thousands of devout followers over nine days and culminates in a solemn procession on the final day. Numerous miracles are attributed to the Señor del Humilladero, whose church is located in the neighborhood of the same name. Gerardo Raynaud notes in a review that “the Apostolic Nuncio of His Holiness Pius XII, during a visit to the church, upon contemplating the image, stated that in none of the shrines he had visited—not even in Rome—had he found a more pious and perfect image of the Crucified Lord.” Nearly 10,000 parishioners arrive in the city to express their devotion to the patron saint of Pamplona.
